Dr. Sunjoo Advani was recognised with the prestigious de Florez award at the SciTech conference in San Diego. The award is a lifetime-achievement award of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in honour of Admiral Luis de Florez.
The citation of the 2022 award reads: For his exception impacts on simulation science, particularly in the worldwide implementation of objective measures of the quality of flight simulation motion systems.
Since 2006, Advani has been involved with the ICAO 9625 working group to implement the Objective Motion Cueing Test, which aims to reduce the reliance on pilot subjective inputs when adjusting motion cueing parameters in flight simulators. “The new test, which assembles many years of research in this field, makes it possible to more accurately define what the pilot in the simulator requires with respect tot he real-world environment, thereby making motion cueing in the simulator based on a physics-based approach, rather than pure subjective inputs.”
“It is a tremendous honour to have been recognised by my peers in this manner”, says Advani.
